On May 28th, 2023, the Midland Development Corporation honored LeoLabs’ Founder and CEO, Dan Ceperley for the company’s successful operation of the Midland Space Radar (MSR) in the environs of the Midland International Air and Spaceport since February 2017. The MSR was LeoLabs first independently owned and operated radar and has been providing continuous, high-resolution orbital data on Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites and space debris. LeoLabs growth has been unstoppable since the MSR and has resulted in industry’s leadership to effect collision avoidance, mapping, situational awareness and ongoing conjunction resolutions. The government, industry, academia and the public at large have been benefiting from LeoLab’s technologies since the MSR started service in 2017. The MSR expands and enhances the Midland International Air and Spaceport footprint to unique land and airspace capabilities unique to the Midland, Permian Basin and West Texas areas.
The Midland Development Corporation (MDC) promotes the City of Midland and incentivizes qualified employers who create and retain a diversified job market in the greater Midland, Texas, region. MDC promotes business expansion and job creation through an established business climate and a strong community. MDC is an effective steward of sales tax revenue to efficiently grow Midland’s economic stability and the quality of life.
The Midland International Air & Space Port Business Park is the first commercial spaceport collocated with an FAA Part 139 commercial airport and its services and resources. The spaceport is an FAA-approved Commercial Space Launch & Re-Entry Site, making it ideal for companies producing, testing, and launching satellites and reusable vehicles. The City of Midland owns and operates the Midland International Air & Space Port. The Spaceport Business Park is marketed to the aerospace industry and the commercial space industry to continue to bring diversification to Midland.
